Authorized by the Central Military Commission of the People's Republic of China (PRC) and sponsored by the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) News Media Center, China Military Online is the only official English-language military news website of the Chinese Armed Forces and an important platform for building up the online international communication capacity of the Chinese military.

Established on March 5, 2003, as an online English-language news provider of the PLA Daily, it was officially named China Military Online on March 5, 2007 and began around-the-clock news release with leading online public opinion and setting a good image of China's military abroad as its main tasks.

China Military Online releases military news items 24 hours daily in English by using multimedia communication means, such as texts, photos, graphics, audio messages, video and cell phone news. As a result, it can reach directly and instantly its audiences abroad at crucial moments of major military news coverage and breaking events of China.
